Abstract

Last decade witnessed increased number of infections with the strains classified as Corynebacterium spp. Pathogenic significance of coryneform belonging to the natural flora of human skin and mucous membrane was taken into consideration. Under favourable conditions these bacteria may cause infection.The aim of this study was to analyse the sensitivity of 16 strains of coryneform, isolated from various materials from patients with infections, to commonly used antibiotics.The evaluation of sensitivity was based on the disc-diffusion method. C. urealyticum strains isolated from urine and blood and C. group ANF isolated from bedsore proved multiresistant. All examined strains were sensitive to glycopeptides. The discussed species of coryneform are important opportunistic bacteria which should not be disregarded in the course of diagnostic procedure.
