Abstract
We determined the in vitro susceptibility towards antimycotics of 928 yeast-like fungi Candida strains independent of the site of their isolation by means of the disk-diffusion test. There were 928 strains isolated from the mouth, vagina, urethra, skin and patient secretions and excretions. We evaluated the susceptibility of Candida towards antimycotics on the YNB medium by means of the disk-diffusion test produced by Dom Handlowy Nauki Sp. z o.o. PAN in Cracow. Studies were performed according to producer notes. The most active antimycotics against all yeast-like fungi strains independent of the site of their isolation included 5-fluorocytosine (95.90% of sensitive isolates), pimaricine (25.65% of sensitive isolates) and fluconazole (27.59%). Amongst imidazole derivatives the most active included clotrimazole (74.78% of isolates were sensitive) and tioconazole (65.63% of isolates were sensitive). Of all yeast-like fungi isolates 30.50% demonstrated in vitro resistance towards ketoconazole and 25.54% towards miconazole. Out of Candida albicans isolates 2.59% were resistant towards 5-fluorocytosine, and 53.88% showed resistance towards fluconazole, respectively. Total resistance towards two or more antimycotics independent of the site of their isolation amounted to 40.10%. The highest percentage of resistant strains towards 2 or more antimycotics was noted in 66% of urethra isolates, and the lowest percentage of resistant strains was found in 32.60% of mouth isolates. We noted significant isolate differences towards antifungal agents independent of the species and their site of isolation. In vitro studies demonstrated a great percentage of strains resistant towards imidazoles.
